Raffaelo Paoli came to Mendocino from Lucca, Italy around 1900, joining his two brothers, Ansano and Ottavito, to work in the woods. Not long afterward, Raffaelo sent for his wife, Emelia, and their two sons. When Raffaelo got a job with the Mendocino Lumber Company, the family moved to the camp on the flats of Big River where their daughter, Minnie, was born. In 1913, Raffaelo bought a hotel on Ukiah Street, operating it until 1941. It was there that Minnie's daughter, Dolly, was born and spent her childhood. In this Sunday Afternoon program, Minnie, age 95, and her daughter, Dolly, talk about winemaking, prohibition, music and the relocation of Mendocino's Italian residents during WWII. T
