Summary The first Mendocino Volunteer Fire Company was formed in 1887. Since that time, Fire Department Volunteers have saved the town from potentially devastating fires and have rescued citizens from auto accidents, cliff falls, treacherous surf and medical emergencies.
This Sunday Afternoon With program, hosted by Ruth Sparks, features a slide show by Linda Wilson and Walt McKeown, authors of "The Volunteers: History of the Mendocino Volunteer Fire Department. Forme. Current volunteers, Jack Lemos, Ken Jackson, Dan McCoard, Steve Schlafer, Barry Cusick, Chief Danny Hervilla and Beth Ryan share stories of their years as volunteer firefighters.
