An alternative newspaper started in 1973 by Stu Chapman, a midwesterner who moved to Mendocino. It began as a monthly paper to serve the counterculturists and radicals who had moved to rural Mendocino to live the simple life. It later was published weekly. The once premier journal of the back-to-the-land movement of the 1970's was purchased by the Lesher Communications chain in the 1980's and died withour a whimper.
